🔒 Privacy Summary: Loqulingua Reader is built with an offline-first, privacy-first architecture. We do not require accounts, do not collect personal identifiers, and do not track or sell your reading activity.
This Privacy Policy describes the policies and procedures of Gokmen Girgin ("Developer", "we", "us", or "our") regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information when you use Loqulingua Reader ("the Application" or "the Service").
1. 100% Privacy-First & On-Device Architecture
- Local Storage: Your imported books (EPUB, PDF), custom vocabulary lists, bookmarks, highlights, reading progress, and SuperMemo SM-2 spaced repetition review history are stored strictly locally on your device in an offline SQLite database.
- No Account Required: You do not need to register, create a profile, or provide an email address to use any core feature of the application.
- No Analytics / No Tracking: We do not track what you read, what words you inspect, or how frequently you use the app. We do not use third-party behavioral analytics SDKs (such as Firebase Analytics or Mixpanel).
2. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Translation Processing
A. On-Device AI (Gemma via LiteRT-LM / MediaPipe)
When you select the On-Device AI engine, all natural language processing, contextual grammar breakdown, and quiz generation are executed 100% locally on your device's processor (CPU/GPU/NPU). Zero sentence text, word lookups, or user data ever leave your device.
B. On-Device Translation (Google ML Kit)
When you use offline translation, sentence translation models (~30 MB per language) are downloaded directly to your device via Google ML Kit. Once downloaded, translation occurs locally on-device without internet access, ensuring complete privacy.
C. Cloud AI Providers (Gemini, OpenAI, Claude) — Optional & User-Controlled
If you optionally choose to connect your own API keys for Google Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic Claude:
- Your API keys are stored solely on your device and are never transmitted to our servers.
- Only the specific word and contextual sentence snippet you choose to inspect is sent directly to the official API endpoint of your selected provider.
- Please consult the respective privacy policies of these providers (Google AI, OpenAI, Anthropic) for their specific data handling terms.
3. Network Usage and Permissions
The Application requests network access strictly to provide the following user-initiated features:
- Project Gutenberg Catalog: Browsing and downloading public domain classics from the Project Gutenberg library (gutendex.com).
- Public RSS Feeds: Fetching articles and news headlines from reputable public news sources (e.g., Tagesschau, Deutsche Welle, BBC) that you choose to follow.
- Language Model Downloads: Downloading open-weight language model weights or Google ML Kit translation packs upon your explicit confirmation.
- Cloud AI Queries: Communicating with external AI providers only if you have configured your own personal API key.
4. Microphone & Speech Permissions
The Application may request microphone access (android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO) solely for the "Verify by Speaking" (Speech-to-Text) feature. When you tap the microphone button on a vocabulary card, your voice is processed on-device using the operating system's native speech recognition engine to compare your pronunciation against the target word. Audio recordings are never stored, uploaded, or transmitted to any server.
5. In-App Purchases & Monetization
- Loqulingua Reader is ad-free and does not integrate third-party advertising SDKs.
- Optional voluntary supporter donations ("Buy Me a Coffee") are processed securely by Google Play In-App Billing (or Apple StoreKit on iOS). We do not collect, process, or store your credit card or financial details. Payment transactions are governed entirely by Google's Payment Terms of Service.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
Because all data is stored locally on your device:
- You retain 100% control over your data.
- You can delete individual books, highlights, or saved vocabulary entries at any time directly within the application.
- Uninstalling the application or clearing the application's storage in your device settings permanently removes all locally saved data.
7. Children's Privacy
Loqulingua Reader does not knowingly collect or solicit any personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. The application is a general-audience educational reading tool suitable for all ages.
